Discover the history of the Bourgeoisie of Grimentz and taste the famous Glacier Wine.
The principle of Glacier Wine is simple: the barrels are never emptied. Each year, new wine is added to the old.
For example:
- The wine from a barrel of 1888 is blended with that of 1886
- The 1934 vintage completes the 1888 barrel
- The 1969 vintage fills the 1934 barrel and then receives the new wine
Glacier Wine is not for sale. It can only be tasted in the cellars of the Val d’Anniviers, drawn directly from the barrel.
The Bourgeoisie cellar of Grimentz houses, among others, the famous Bishop’s Barrel. The wine in this larchwood cask dates back to 1886. Once reserved for the Bishop, it is today also served to distinguished guests on special occasions.
