Rye bread

Rye bread is an ancestral tradition...
Rye has been cultivated in Valais for centuries and rye bread-making is an integral part of the ancient Valais tradition. With its mountainous terrain and extreme temperatures, the canton is an ideal place for growing rye. In days of yore, the inhabitants baked rye bread which could be stored for several months: the village’s communal oven was lit twice or three times a year and the villagers came together to produce their own bread.

Today, you can revive this tradition by participating in the events organised in St-Luc and Grimentz.
