5. Grimentz - Animal Trail

During this hike, which lasts a little over two hours, you’ll be immersed in the forest below Grimentz. You’ll start by following the Grand Bisse and then, stepping into the shoes of a trapper, you’ll head up along the animal nature trail. Aside from a short steep section at the start in St-Jean, the trail is very pleasant and enchanting. View of the valley floor.

OUR ADVICE
The early segment of the ascent from St Jean is steep. Caution is advised especially when the trail is icy.

Useful information

Start at the bus stop by the post office. Head down the local road past the beehives. At the end, take the path that first descends and then climbs back up to the cantonal road. Follow the cantonal road on the left for about 100 meters, then take the small path that descends toward St-Jean. Continue straight ahead, following the bisse trail markers. Once you reach St-Jean d’En-haut, head back up toward the ski trail, and follow the Chemin des Animaux, which branches off to the left and leads to Grimentz.
