OFXB's 31st anniversary celebration - Conference: Prof. Michel Mayor - "Is There a Planet B: Will Humanity Migrate to an Exoplanet?"
Prof. Michel Mayor is a renowned Swiss astrophysicist and co-recipient of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics. A professor at the University of Geneva, he revolutionized astronomy in 1995 by discovering, together with Didier Queloz, 51 Pegasi b, the very first exoplanet orbiting a sun-like star.
Is there a Planet B? Will humanity migrate to an exoplanet?
Over the past 31 years, we have discovered the incredible diversity of planetary systems associated with the stars in our galaxy: gas planets, ocean worlds, and rocky planets. Physical or chemical conditions are not always favorable for the development of life. However, planets with conditions comparable to those on Earth have already been discovered. Does life exist on their surfaces? Will we be able to detect it? Will humanity one day be able to migrate to a nearby “Earth-B”?
