In the footsteps of Edmond Bille in Chandolin – a walk through the village to discover the historical views and compare them with today’s landscape, right where the photos were originally taken.
For nearly 40 years, Edmond Bille photographed village life. A permanent tour, with 24 stations, invites visitors to rediscover these scenes while strolling through the village.
Edmond Bille (1878–1959), then a young artist from Neuchâtel, arrived in Chandolin in 1900 with the ambitious project of painting the Matterhorn (or the Sphinx) on a grand scale. This work, which led to his settling in Valais, was reacquired by the Edmond Bille Association in 2023 and is now exhibited in the village hall along with other pieces by the artist.
