Post 11. Basin

This basin is an example of the traditional watering basin hollowed out of a larch tree.

  Map of St-Luc

Formerly, the basin was of great importance because it was used to supply drinking water to homes, but also for giving water to domestic animals. One needed twenty to thirty litres of water per animal, per day. The more a cow drinks, the better it digests. For watering, cows were detached and the oldest or most disciplined went first because they knew the way and the others followed them.

This location gives us the opportunity to evoke the second fire that struck the town in 1858, thirteen years after the first one.
