Ice-fall climbing

Ice-fall climbing is one of the most exhilarating winter activities on offer in Anniviers. Illuminated by bright floodlights after dark, the icefalls open the door to an unreal, enchanting world.

The icefall climbing season is very short-lived. It starts at the beginning of winter and finishes towards the end of February when the temperatures are no longer sufficiently low to guarantee maximum safety. Despite an appearance of deceptive simplicity, climbing these frozen faces requires specific equipment and training. Once well-equipped and trained you are ready to delight in the sensations offered by climbing the two icefalls of the Val d’Anniviers.

Cascade de la Puchotaz - Mayoux

  • Illuminated at night
  • 10 minutes’ walk - from the village of Mayoux, follow the lane towards Orzival
  • Return: descend through the forest on the right

Cascade du Belvédère - Zinal

  • Illuminated at night
  • 20 minutes’ walk from the village of Zinal. Suivre la petite route à droite après l'Hôtel Europe, traverser le pont de Barmettaz, tourner à droite et prendre le chemin qui monte tout de suite à gauche à la cascade du Belvédère.
