Musée Musée des Outils Anciens de Pinsec (MOAP)

New in Pinsec : Musée des Outils Anciens de Pinsec (MOAP)

This museum is housed inside a traditional ‘raccard’ granary built in 1733. It is home to a collection of antique tools traditionally used by the different trades in the mountain valleys, such as farmers, foresters, woodcutters, etc.

In all, there are 500 tools and objects dating from the 17th to the early 20th century on show, in a fascinating insight into life and work in the mountains. The exhibits represent 17 trades and professions, including the timber trade, metalworking, food production, farming and housework.

Originally the work of a dedicated collector, the idea behind this museum inside a traditional ‘raccard’ granary at 1290 m altitude is to inform and educate about Switzerland’s mountain history and heritage.

The museum covers three floors. The ground floor has been turned into the ‘Caveau de la Société du Village’ (Village Cooperative Cellar). Various items of interest are lined up along the walls, including winegrowers’ and coopers’ tools. The barrels on show all contain local ‘Vins des Glaciers’ such as Petite Arvine, Malvoisie and Ermitage. The cellar is also used to store cheese for maturing. The outside steps take visitors up to the main part of the museum to see the 23 exhibition showcases on two floors.

Tools are also made available to visitors to test them in a real way.
