Guided visit to the village / Zinal

Get to know a village through its people !
Would you like to learn how this high-altitude hamlet, once occupied only in the summer months as part of the transhumance tradition, became a year-round resort?

Guided tour with Denise Morisod and Régis Theytaz, followed by a visit to the Maison du Remuage, the transhumance museum.

Before becoming a resort, Zinal was a village of summer mountain huts; it wasn’t until 1860 that the locality’s name became increasingly associated with the growth of mountaineering. Why did the summits of Zinal attract so many British climbers?

What does Zinal mean? How many people can be accommodated today? What is the name of its iconic peak? Where did the Queen of the Netherlands stay?

Enjoy exploring the past and present stories of Zinal, as well as a traditional house that bears witness to a bygone way of life, in the company of passionate local residents who really enjoy sharing their knowledge of village and valley with visitors.

Denise Morisod, born in Sierre, has lived in Zinal since 1970. Her work as a clerk at the former Zinal Post Office brought her into regular close contact with both local residents and tourists. A volunteer ski instructor on the pistes for many years, she is also very familiar with the skiing world.

Régis Theytaz, a tour guide and ski instructor, is also the owner of Zinal-Sports. Originally from Ayer, he attended the last peripatetic school between Zinal, Ayer and Sierre. In 1968, Régis Theytaz and his cousin Florentin achieved the first winter ascent of the west face of the Weisshorn.
