OUR ADVICE
Information on Wildlife
Welcome to these unspoiled natural areas. You are fortunate to be able to explore habitats rich in wildlife, even in winter—a season when these animals become particularly vulnerable. The Black Grouse, which inhabits the upper forest edges between 1,800 and 2,200 meters, is one of these discreet species that are sensitive to disturbance, especially during the cold season.
During this period, it spends most of its time buried in the snow, digging an igloo that offers it relative protection. If disturbed—for example, by a skier approaching—it will flee—a costly endeavor in terms of energy—and, upon leaving its refuge for good, will be at the mercy of the cold and predators for many hours.
Strictly follow the designated trail to minimize disturbances in these refuge areas (forest edges and forests)
Also, exercise discretion at all times, but especially at the beginning and end of the day, when the grouse is foraging in the trees
These few rules of consideration will benefit all wildlife and, with a little luck, allow you to admire—if not the distant silhouette of a grouse perched in a treetop—then that of a roe deer, a chamois, or a hare. Enjoy your hikes and may you make wonderful discoveries!

Useful information

The hike starts near the ticket booths for the Forêt chairlift. Parking is available. The trail begins with a short but relatively steep climb to the left of the ski run, up to the road (blue trail). Follow the road through the forest for about 15 minutes. The hike then continues uphill, leading you to the mountain huts fairly quickly. Once you’re out of the forest, follow the final stretch of trail leading to the Bella Tola Cabin.
