St-Luc/Tignousa - Chemin des Planètes No. 19

The Path of the Planets, which stretches from the funicular’s arrival station in Tignousa to the Hotel Weisshorn, is a scaled-down representation (1/1,000,000,000th scale for distances and 1/100,000,000th scale for sizes) of our solar system. So you’ll need to walk 4.5 km along the Path to reach the last planet (Neptune), represented by a 50-cm sphere. Further on, the Path becomes a balcony-style trail along the slopes of the Pointes de Nava. There you’ll discover Halley’s Comet and the dwarf planet Pluto.

Useful information

Walk to the François-Xavier Bagnoud Observatory, located 100 meters to the right of the funicular’s arrival point. Then take the Chemin des Planètes, which leads to the Hôtel Weisshorn. Twenty minutes past the hotel, on the Sierre-Zinal trail, you can climb up to Pluto and take in the magnificent scenery.
1.
From Pluto, continue the hike to the Nava mountain pasture and head to St-Luc via Copaté and the Prilett (3 hours—moderate difficulty).
2.
Extend the hike to Zinal. The final descent to Zinal from the Barneusa mountain pasture is quite steep. You can take the PostBus from Zinal back to St-Luc (3h30 – moderate difficulty).
3.
Return to St-Luc directly below the Hotel Weisshorn via Gillou, the Valais Center (balance point), and the Prilett (1 hour 30 minutes – moderate difficulty).
4.
Return to St-Luc via Les Girettes. Shortly after the Toûno/Chiesso mountain pasture, turn left (2 hours—easy).
5.
