Ayer - Zau Zoura Educational Trail No. 17

Located in the forest upstream from the village of Ayer, this trail allows visitors to explore the ecosystem between the village and the mayen, as well as how humans have integrated into the environment, through educational signs. A 6-kilometer trail, from the old village of Ayer to the Mayen des Moyes, is dotted with stations explaining what you see along the way. Experts in various fields—including sociology, botany, agriculture, and geology—explain the landscape’s hidden wonders. A short text summarizes each stop; it can be accessed online in text or audio format. An “expert mode” allows curious visitors to find additional details such as bibliographies, maps, and local references.

Useful information

The trail begins at the village square in Ayer. The starting point is designated as Checkpoint 0; the loop ends at the old stand past Checkpoint 15.
Hike up to the edge of the forest near the stream (15 minutes), then follow the forest trail for about 30 minutes to the Nava Road. Continue north for about 100 meters, then take the new hiking trail that leads to the Moyes mountain huts. Head back down toward the Nava road, follow the trail near the Frayés mountain huts to the road, and continue south to the end of the trail. Return to the village along the Chemin des Vaches.
Alternative Route 1
Follow the same route to the Nava Road, then take the forest road south. Once at the end of the road, take the Chemin des Vaches, which leads back to the village. Shorter alternative (2 hours 30 minutes, walking time excluding stops at the checkpoints—easy).
