OFXB's 31st anniversary celebration - Conference: Dr. Arthur Choplin - "Cosmic Pulse: (Re)discovering the Cosmos through Images, Sounds, and Original Musical Compositions"
Dr. Arthur Choplin is a French astrophysicist specializing in stellar nucleosynthesis and a musician, known for his innovative projects combining science and art. He works as an FNRS research fellow at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) within the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics. In 2024, he received the ULB Science Communication Award for his ability to make astronomy accessible to the public.
Cosmic Pulse
The universe offers striking images – a night sky in the mountains, a snapshot of a distant nebula… Cosmic signals can also be "sonified" – translated into audible sounds. This makes it possible to hear stars rustle, chirp, roar, or even hum little melodies. Added to this is the infinite and more subjective realm of music that the cosmos can inspire in us.
In this "astro-musical" presentation, we will explore – with images and sounds – some astrophysical objects populating the sky. Three musical creations will be interspersed with a simple, accessible scientific talk for everyone.
